Pharmacy Tech I 12 Grade
3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Herndon Career Center - Building C
Prerequisite(s): Min 2.0 GPA; 90% attendance record, successful completion of English II, Algebra I, Biology I or Chemistry I with a C or better
This one year program is designed to introduce students to the many careers available in the pharmaceutical industry. This program will learn common medications, scientific terminology, how different drugs work in the body, and the different types of pharmacies that are available to work in. Students will practice professionalism and communication utilizing role playing scenarios as they prepare for job shadowing and clinical experience opportunities. This program will teach standards consistent with the national Pharmacy Technician Board Certification (PTCB) guidelines. A combination of active lecturing, guest speakers, field trips and labs will be utilized. Students will earn the OSHA10 Healthcare certification and work towards becoming a nationally certified pharmaceutical technician.
