Electrical Trades

Electrical Trades I 11-12 Grade

3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Herndon Career Center - Building B

Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.0 GPA; 90% attendance record; successful completion of English II and Algebra I with a C or better. 

Recommended: Industrial Technology courses

This course is the first year of a two-year program preparing students as entry-level technicians for the residential and commercial electrical trades industry. Students will complete a variety of hands-on electrical projects designed to develop practical skills and reinforce classroom instruction. Projects will include NEC code, theory and application, residential wiring  and commercial wiring. Students will learn to interpret electrical plans, apply code requirements, select appropriate materials, install and terminate wiring, use electrical tools and test equipment, and troubleshoot circuits. Projects will emphasize electrical safety, accuracy, workmanship, problem-solving, and industry standards while preparing students for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, and continued training in the electrical trades. Students will be eligible to earn their NCCER Electrical One and their OSHA-10 hour safety card.  

 

Electrical Trades II 12 Grade

3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Herndon Career Center - Building B

Prerequisite(s): ≥ 90% attendance and ≥ B- or better Electrical Trades I, NCCER Electrical One and OSHA 10 card. 

This course is the second year of a two-year program preparing students as entry-level technicians for the residential and/or commericial electrical trades industry.
