Education Exploration
Education Exploration I 11-12 Grade
3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Spring Valley Elementary
This course is designed for students who have an interest in learning about future careers in teaching and education. Students will have the opportunity to observe pre-K through secondary instruction, collaborate with educators, lead classroom instruction, and explore post-secondary opportunities. The program is largely centered on learning about classroom teaching, including time devoted to field trips and guest speakers to learn about varying careers within education. Students should be prepared to complete and present a comprehensive, year-long passion project.First year students may earn up to six (6) college credits through Northwest Missouri State University. Student transportation is required.
Education Exploration II 12 Grade
3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Spring Valley Elementary
2nd Year Prerequisites: Students must meet eligibility requirements including: 90% attendance at HCC, a cumulative HCC grade of B- or higher, and a positive internship evaluation rating from year 1. Students must also have a desire to be on a student-teaching internship 4 days a week and complete an advanced, year-long, passion project.
Second year Education Exploration students will have the opportunity to complete a year-long student teaching internship 4 days per week and attend a teaching seminar 1 day per week. During the second year experience students will collaborate with educators, lead classroom instruction, and explore post-secondary opportunities. Second year students may earn up to six (6) college credits through Northwest Missouri State University. Student transportation is required.
