Animal Health Science I 11-12 Grade
3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium
Prerequisite(s): Minimum 2.0 GPA; 90 % attendance record; successful completion of English II and Algebra I with a C or better; Biology Grade of C or better.
This hands-on, project based career exploration course will allow students an opportunity to discover a variety of options in the animal health industry. Students will learn from professionals in the fields of large animals, marine animals, small animals, exotics, wildlife, and animal research. Students will practice soft skills and professionalism both in the classroom and through an earned internship second semester. Classroom location for Animal Health Sciences is at the Kansas City Zoo. This program is eligible for 1-4 credits of dual credit work through Northwest Missouri State University. Students should be prepared to complete and present a comprehensive, year-long passion project. Students must provide their own transportation.
Animal Health Science II 12 Grade
3.0 Credits, 2 Semesters, Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium
2nd Year Prerequisite: Students must meet eligibility requirements including 90% attendance at HCC, a cumulative Animal Health Science I grade of 80% or higher, and a positive internship evaluation from first year second semester internship. Students must also desire to be out in industry on an internship setting totaling at least 8 hours per week and take on the role of mentors to the first year students. Students engaging in second year programming should be prepared to complete and present an advanced, year-long passion project. Students must provide their own transportation.
