Herndon Career Center's History
Founded in 1973, the Herndon Career Center, named after long-time Raytown Superintendent Joe Herndon, began as a vocational education partnership with six suburban school districts. Since that time, Herndon has helped lead a transformation in Missouri career education. Herndon’s campus houses 18 programs with access to cutting edge facilities, highly qualified industry professionals as teachers, program offerings that meet workforce and community needs, and a focus on real world learning in high demand, high skilled careers. The Herndon Career Center currently educates over 600 students from Raytown, Lee’s Summit, Independence, Hickman Mills, Grandview, and the Center School Districts. The program offerings continue to evolve as community and workforce needs change.
